Peridot has been my second home for more then the past two years. I've scene employees and customers come and go, style after style come in and out and the space inside mold into just about every display arrangement possible. Peridot's success continues to grow, as do I. It's hard but at the same time exciting to write that we are parting ways. No worries! The great "one-stop-shopping" neighborhood boutique is staying put with a great new staff to assist your fashion needs. I however, am moving on but not far. Queen Anne has always been my home; I've lived and worked in Queen Anne ever since I moved to Seattle 6 years ago. You can be sure to find me just up the hill. My plans to move on include exploring the local fashion industry. Always drawn to the aesthetics of and in life; I take pride in knowing that other woman appreciate me bringing this sense to their fashion ventures. Creative organic textures, shapes, colors, proportions, symmetry. It's appropriate that I've come to this point on my journey. Supporting, promoting, purchasing, living and breathing sustainable fashion and art in my community is my ultimate passion and goal! It's the journey and the process that I love. It's the lifestyle that I want to promote. I'm happy to take action amidst the beauty of it all.

February 7th was a cold rainy night in soggy Seattle but inside Peridot it was warm and bright! Enjoying food, wine and each other's company made the night a success! Not to mention a few friends who have been to just about every one of our shows. Take a look at the photos below and enjoy!

Kim is owner of Kimmi Designs. I respect the way she captures the shape of a woman's body. Each piece of her clothing is unique and has depth. Kim has an eye for beautiful vintage textiles. Drapes, table clothes or old flour sacks are just some examples. The re-purposed materials are hand sewn by Kim into beautiful pieces of woman's clothing. New at Peridot is a local designer with superb style, Suzabelle. Her way of calling great attention to subtle detail and accenting it with piping seems to be part of her signature style. Oh, no..by no means are we to put such an artist in any defined category. She offers variety with in her classical elements. You can find this fine lady-like fashion at Peridot for a limited time only. Sorry! We wish we could have her for a longer time. It is certainly a pleasure! For now it's temporary, so be sure not to miss it. Although what we have in the store consists mostly of Spring '07 remainders, they're still selling like the latest thang! So far, our customers are intrigued and want to know more. Perhaps, if we're nice she'll grace us with some of her future styles.

New Denim Arrivals!

If you don't have a pair of Level 99 denim in your closet, get some! Peridot picked up the designer denim about a year ago. They're our best selling denim. We love the variety of styles, the sure to flatter fit and price point. Our customers love them too! Two new styles have been ordered and will be for sale at the store soon. The Laguna and the Dorthy, it has a slightly higher rise and is a great going out to dinner jean..a bit dressier compared to the Laguna. The Chloe is hard to get ahold of these days but our connections will help us out if any show up in the warehouse ;) At Peridot we try to do what ever we can to bring our customers the jeans we know they love! They're not in the store this minute but like I said, they'll be arriving soon. Be sure to stop by the store in the next few weeks.

Karazi Design on the Winter Solstice

As the Winter Solstice set into the motion longer days, thank you Mother Earth and Father Moon, designer Samia Shalabi and friends gathered at Peridot where Karazi Designs decorated the belly of Peridot in silver, gold, found glass pieces from the beaches of the World Wars, Czech glass beads and precious stones from all parts of the world including belled pendents from Africa and various adornments from the Middle East. We had a fabulous time having Samia as our guest. The trunk show was successful! While the designer is now on the other side of this world scouting out more treasures to soon turn into pieces of wearable art a small collection of her current work is being housed at Peridot. Stop by the store to take a look. Some have already sold to good homes. Prices are good and this locally made jewelry is such a perfect gift for someone special...like you!

December was an incredible month for Peridot! As the month approached, it's true, I was a bit nervous about the series of trunk shows I lined up. Was I really going to be able to enjoy the fact that every Friday I would be at "work" from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.? If you can imagine throwing a party for 30 of your friends every Friday for three weeks in a row well, then you can imagine being me in December. I played host all month long...no joke! It turns out that it was a great role for me. As the shows came and went each one became easier to organize and coordinate and I became more relaxed. This allowed me to connect with my guests more, which is what I really love about the shows. Hell! What is more fun then hanging out with great artists and designers, drinking wine, sharing stories about our inspirations, how we all got to this place and what our next dreams (big or small) are??? Really! It was all my pleasure. In the past year I've met more incredible people! Enjoy the pictures below.

Rebecca Agiewich

Rebecca is a local writer who got her start blogging about her dating experiences. She's working on her second book now. Go Silver Boot & DULCE Holiday Show

During this time of year there is nothing more likely to bring back blissful childlike euphorics then playing in a back yard full of snow...except for playing dress-up in big sis's closet while she is away...at least if you're a girl ;) This describes the fun we had last night during the show. Despite all of the holiday party competition around town, Peridot had a successfully fun night! This is largely contributed to the crowd that seems to follow Liza and Go Silver Boot. Although the foot traffic was slow and our guest DJ had to cancel the girls at Peridot made the best of it. There is a new scent in the air at Peridot. We're excited to offer our customers a signature Peridot scent created by Nhung, Minh, Elle and of course, myself. With the help of Shawna, who is our local Scent Consultant, we created a scent that will transform you into shopping bliss! Spring Showers Trunk Show...Success Story!

Jewelry that is so beautiful and uniquely made is hard for any woman to decide what one is going to become their own. No doubt this was the case during the May 11 truck show at Peridot. Silver Boot not only kicked off the night with it's spectacular display of precious stones strung on 100% sterling silver but it also made us girly girls weak in our knees. Knock out prices included. There was so much to choose from and of course we all enjoyed trying it on! How else are we supposed to know what suites us women best ;)

Rain Boots! Yes, even fashionable in the Spring, especially in Seattle! Multi seasonal waterproofing for your feet. Funky and fun patterns. Not only good for puddle jumping but totally hip at the dog park, digging in urban garden projects or your own back yard. The evening was enjoyable and successful. Wine was shared by friends new and old. A beautiful assortment of spring clothing was available for Peridot and Silver Boot customers to peruse through making it a well rounded evening of shopping and socializing. Not to mention the prices. All Peridot purchases were 20% off, what a deal! It was a time for customers to really enjoy themselves. Talk about retail therapy! The crowd was just the right size for the space making the fusion between wine sipping and shopping a pleasant affair.

Brakeup Babe

BrakeupBabe is a novel written by one of Peridot's customers, Rebecca Agiewich. It is her first novel and we are helping her out with it's maiden voyage. I have not read it yet but intend to take it to the beach as soon as the sun shine decides to stick around. What a great gift for a girlfriend! Stop by and pick one up soon. When Seattle author Rebecca Agiewich got her heart broken, she did what any respectable dumpee would do; she started a blog about it. The blog inspired her novel BrakeupBabe. Set in Seattle and at the mighty "Empire Corporation," BrakeupBabe is a comic take on love, dating and letting it all hang out in the blogosphere.

What can I say? I love fashion shows! Unzipped was full of creative, fashionable, funky and fresh wearable clothing and accessories. Saturday was a bit slow, not very desieratble for designers. However, it picked up a bit Saturday and besides, the ability to connect, chat and get to know some of the personalities behind the pieces was there for the taking. I did just that in hopes of luring the designers into showing their creations off at Peridot. While presenting the designers with the idea of showcasing their lines at Peridot eyes lit up and smiles grew. Excitement was sparked! Be sure to look for new and exciting jewelery and clothing designers at Peridot this summer and fall.
The variety at the show was huge! Good thing it's the spice of life. This is what I hope Peridot can connect you with. Bringing local, independent designers to our local consumers. Building a stronger community, know where our dollars are going to and coming. Yes, even for fashion. Threads like one size fit's all funky skirts that can double as tops, consisting of a huge variety of patterns and materials, can dress them up or down, over jeans, leggings or as is, very snappy! Materials that are warm and yummy for fall like Soy/Lycra Jersey, sound cozy or what? How about sustainable, functional and fashionable had bags, wallets and sunglass holders made out of recycled library books and rubber tires. Weather your style is clean and classic to sharp and fierce, there was something for everyone at the show.
One last general observation. The music was well done. Something that makes a difference not only for the customers but for the participating vendors. I've been to fashions shows where the music is just one continuous loop. Hearing the same song more then five times in one day is too much for anyone. Unzipped was smart and coordinated a live dj.
